Have you seen the gorgeous organic shaped clay earrings that are all the rage right now? It seems like I can’t turn the corner without seeing a pair. I love the color combos and rounded-edged shapes so much. There is something not only beautiful, but soothing about how they look. Don’t you agree? I have seen similar earrings made from ceramic, laser cut acrylic, and even leather, but today I am going to show you a polymer clay tutorial for these lovely earrings!
Polymer Clay Tutorial Supplies:
- Oven Bake Polymer Clay
- X-Acto Knife
- Clay Rolling Pin
- 10mm Gold Jump Rings
- Ear Hooks
- Pliers
- Sand Paper
- Baking Sheet and Oven
Begin this polymer clay tutorial by choosing your colors or make your own by mixing the clay.
Once you have your clay colors, begin rolling out the clay until it is roughly 1/8″ thick. Then use your knife to cut the clay into organic shapes. You may find it easier to cut a piece of paper into your desired shape first, then use that as a template to cut out your clay. You will need two pieces of each color/shape combo for one pair of earrings.
Once you have your shapes cut out (try to combine small 1/2″ sized pieces with larger 1-2″ sized shapes), place them all on your cookie sheet and use a needle or toothpick to poke a hole in the top and bottom of the small shapes and just the top of the larger shapes.
Next, place your pieces in the oven and bake at 275F for 15-20 minutes. Then remove from the oven and let cool. Next, use the sandpaper to sand the clay jewelry pieces to get rid of any fingerprints and give the pieces a rough matte look.
Next, use your pliers and jump rings to attach the small pieces to the large pieces and then add the ear hook to a jump ring in the top of the small pieces.
Once they are assembled, they are ready to wear! I personally love the sanded matte look of them paired with these natural colors and organic shapes, but if you prefer a glossy look, you can always give them a coat of polymer clay sealant.
I hope you enjoyed this polymer clay tutorial for these lovely organic shaped earrings!
